PROCEDURE DAY
Your LASIK procedure day has arrived! There’s very little you need to do other than arrive at your scheduled time. You don’t need to worry about food or drink restrictions before the surgery—some of our afternoon patients continue working right up until their appointment. There’s no need to arrive hours in advance; typically, your procedure will start within 30 minutes of your arrival. Once you’re in the LASIK laser operation suite, the entire process will take just about 15 minutes to treat both eyes.
Questions
One of the most frequent questions we receive from our clients is, “Does it hurt?” For nearly all patients, the answer is a definitive “no!” The procedure is typically painless, and recovery is quick for most individuals. We don’t use needles; instead, we apply a numbing drop to the cornea to eliminate any sensation of pain. Overall, LASIK is a straightforward and comfortable experience for patients.
The procedure involves reshaping the corneal tissue layers just beneath the eye’s surface. Dr. Eisner will guide you with clear instructions throughout the process. Your primary role is to remain still and follow the directions. There’s no need to worry about blinking or moving, as our Advanced CustomVue laser system features cutting-edge 3-D tracking technology to ensure your eye stays perfectly positioned.
After your procedure, Dr. Eisner will conduct a post-operative eye exam to ensure everything is healing properly. Then it’s time to relax—taking a nap is crucial for speeding up your recovery. Dr. Eisner will prescribe Valium to help you enjoy a restful sleep.
A nap of 1-2 hours after your procedure can significantly improve your vision. It’s normal to experience some scratchiness until you rest, as natural tears and oils in your eyes work to smooth things out. Please arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home, as you won’t be able to drive yourself.
Patience truly pays off. While many patients notice immediate improvements after their procedure, the most significant visual recovery usually becomes apparent after 5-6 hours and a restful nap. The next day, you’ll likely see even more noticeable results, making it worth the wait.
